Empty shops help homeless

From: David Treacher, Nelson Road, Hull, East Yorkshire.

IT’S terrible how many people I see on my travels to various towns and cities in the area who are homeless and have to sit in shop doorways of closed down shops all day. Many places will not have this class of person to sit in their premises, such as bus stations and the public libraries.

It must be a very sad life for them and they must wonder when this problem will end, but society does not always help the situation.

It might seem strange but if it was not for these closed down shops I have no idea where they would sit all day or even sleep at night.

What would they do if all the shops opened again?

Outrageous rise

From: Arnold Dearing, Heather Way, Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

I AM in a bit of shock right now due to receiving a letter from my electricity and gas supplier, First Utility.

They have been kind enough to advise me that my new electricity price will go up from 9.57 pence to 15.08 pence per kwh. This represents a rise of 57.7 per cent.

Has this enormous rise been passed to Ofgem, I wonder, or indeed any other Government department? This is as crazy as it is outrageous.

They sugar their offer by saying the daily rate will reduce from 18.8 pence to 14 pence per day, a “massive” saving of £1.44 a month.
