What a pleasure reading Christa Ackroyd’s article (The Yorkshire Post, August 8).

She writes more common sense in one small article than the rest of the reporters in a week. They are under the illusion that their task in life is to hold the Government accountable by consistently criticising ministers generally based on hindsight.

Last week I had to visit an optician in Beverley to arrange replacement glasses for broken ones. Social distancing was not possible due to the amount of people about.

The most worrying thing was that there appeared to be, at most, five per cent of us wearing face masks.

The remaining 95 per cent didn’t seem to have a care in the world and we can be assured that this 95 per cent will be the first to complain when
future lockdowns are implemented.

If the PM had brought the media in as advisors in January I am sure the input and knowledge they now display would have ensured Covid-19 would never have reached UK shores, hospitals would never have been under pressure, with more than adequate stocks of suitable PPE, and factories and schools would never have had to close.

Well I can dream.
