Family do not endorse book

From: Yvonne and Alicia Johanneson, USA.

We are writing to you in regard to a print and video piece (Yorkshire Post, June 21) on Paul Harrison’s biography of our deceased father, Albert Johanneson.

By running the piece, we are pleased to know that the people of Leeds still have memories of and an interest in Albert, however we want to take this opportunity to inform you and your readers that Albert Johanneson’s Estate in no way endorses the book written by Mr Harrison and cannot speak to the veracity of any of the content that is purported to have come from interviews with our deceased father.

While it is extremely unfortunate that Albert is no longer alive to speak for himself with regard to either his private life or the pioneering role he publicly played in British football, we, his daughters, do not want anyone to get an incorrect impression of who he was, his life experiences, and for what he stood.

Though we commend Mr Harrison for wanting to present a positive picture of our father, we reiterate that we cannot corroborate what has been presented as fact in this biography and we disavow the complete accuracy of the author’s portrait of Albert Johanneson.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could share our sentiments with your readership.

Man for the job?

REGARDING Lord Prescott standing as police commissioner in Humberside (Yorkshire Post, August 15).

Previous campaigns to persuade us all out of cars with a promise of resignation if he failed never produced that welcome result.

His regional assembly idea was soundly shot down by a public weary of yet more professional politicians taking our hard-earned taxes.

His dislike of the idea of police commissioners has not prevented him standing (it’s a good earner) and he is a lord after a lifetime of hating the House of Lords.

In short, is he the perfect candidate for Humberside and this country?
