Forget Laurence Fox; the late Jo Cox identified Britishness – Yorkshire Post Letters

I WAS puzzled to see J Hutchinson from
Kirbymoorside saluting Laurence Fox (The Yorkshire Post, October 2) who supposedly is ‘reclaiming British values from our politicians’.

British values include tolerance, respect for the rule of law and our Great Britain (and our arguably greater county of Yorkshire) is not diminished by our diversity (another British value). Rather, it is enhanced by it.

Laurence will do just fine whether he succeeds in his latest role or not.

In the real world, rather
than the confected culture
war, Great Britain would be much enhanced if we were to give a leading role to someone who truly espoused British values.

I would cast the late Jo Cox
MP who, as a politician, reminded us that “we have far more in common than divides us”.

Her legacy lives on in many arenas but particularly that of community and connection, which I fear your correspondent has lost sight of.

We must face the good and
bad of our past so we have a future based on reality, not
make believe.

Why would we want to
teach our children a fantasy
plot?
