I ALWAYS look forward to the pieces by Susan Briggs in The Yorkshire Post. Her ability to capture the mood (July 13) and articulate what so many in tourism are feeling is testament to her many years of working in the industry herself.

She has always been generous in her sharing of ideas, expertise and experience. She asks ‘is anyone listening?’ to her suggestions for a much more strategic approach to Yorkshire tourism and hospitality. Susan speaks to all those who have a stake in the success of the Yorkshire tourist economy, so it does rather beg the question ‘why is nobody listening’?

This must be the right time to not only put Yorkshire tourism firmly back on the map, but to put it front and centre of our economic recovery. It employs a lot of people, it sustains a lot of family businesses, it puts money into our local economies and it gives pleasure to countless visitors.

We are all going to need something positive as we move into a challenging few years ahead. If there is a real desire for Yorkshire tourism to succeed, I am sure Susan would be pleased to bring a small group together to draw up a plan. Keep the articles coming Susan!
