Hypocrisy over lambs’ suffering

THERE is a whiff of hypocrisy about many of those feeling sorry for the poor lambs stuck in or suffocated under snowdrifts.

After all, at very few months old most of those lambs which have survived will be carted off to an abattoir to be killed and turned into “Lamb”. Who feels sorry for them then?

MARK Gilmore, West Yorkshire’s new chief constable, will have a hard time restoring faith in the police force in general (Yorkshire Post, April 3).

Whatever happened to such brave officers as Bradford’s Sharon Beshenivsky and Teresa Millburn who weren’t afraid of thugs and entered premises being burgled unarmed – Sharon paying with her life?

Gone to pot

AS our beleaguered local councils have insufficient funds to make good all the increasing number of highway potholes, why don’t they give up the struggle and simply erect warning signs, describing them as official traffic-calming measures?

Heartfelt plea

THE decision to close the congenital heart unit at Leeds General Infirmary, and the degree of anxiety it caused, is another example of why the North needs a devolved parliament in Leeds.
