Joe Biden is a lame duck president and the Middle East and Ukraine is paying the price - Yorkshire Post Letters

From: MK O'Sullivan, Victoria Street, Allerton Bywater, Castleford.

A few days ago I saw a newspaper article that former US President Jimmy Carter celebrated his 100th birthday.

How much has changed since he was defeated by Ronald Reagan in 1980. For many of his critics Carter was regarded as the weakest president of the 20th century, I would contend that the current president Joe Biden is even more feeble and weak, for proof look at his handling of the two wars, Ukraine and Gaza/Lebanon. Alas for so many Biden's craven acts and decisions have brought death, maiming and infrastructure destruction. Nethanyahu and Putin ignoring him shows just how little they respect him, the pull out from Afghanistan makes their case.

We are now seeing on our TV news daily coverage of Israeli IDF attacks in Lebanon on blocks of flats, whole families being killed or maimed, men, women and children. The IDF has yet to reveal how infants are terrorists to be killed, in Gaza or Lebanon.

I recall an incident which Sky News covered, an example of IDF child murder. In January of this year, 6-year-old Hind Rajab was in a car with family members fleeing the IDF.

An IDF tank fired on the car killing her family members, A cousin of Hind's called the Red Crescent to tell them of what had happened and the child was terrified, in the car with dead relatives.

The Red Crescent dispatcher on the phone told Hind that an ambulance would come for her, the IDF were told where the child was, given the coordinates. When the ambulance arrived the IDF fired on it killing the child and ambulance crew. The IDF lied saying that they had no vehicles in the area, US forensic and ballistic experts confirmed that this was a lie. The IDF said that they would ‘investigate’. The IDF say that they take great care in targeting, that they are a 'moral army'. God forbid that they become an immoral one, even more innocent blood would flow.

In Ukraine we have President Zelensky pleading with Biden for permission to use long range weapons to hit Russian air bases, Biden craven to the core, dithers and dithers while more and more Ukrainians are killed fighting, alas for them and their country men and women they have no vote on November 5, nor have the suffering civilians of Gaza and Lebanon.

For Biden, Harris, Trump, election win is first concern, both Nethanyahu and Putin know this, Nethanyahu knows that the IDF can continue the bombing and killing spree with impunity, planes, missiles, bombs, drones US supplied. Could hypocrisy be more blatant?

It is over a year to the day since the October 7 Hamas atrocity, the Israeli response has been too extreme, the Israelis have every right to defend their land, but not as like now.

We heard on 02/10/24 that eight Israelis were killed in action in Lebanon, more grieving families paying the price Nethanyahu is demanding, how can he be stopped?

Biden is now a lame duck president, might he just once show some strength and rein Nethanyahu in and give the Ukrainians the permission they crave?

It has been said that a dangerous politician is a weak one trying to show that he can be strong, Biden is an example.
