June 23: Ken Dodd’s trial and error

GRAHAM Lund (The Yorkshire Post, June 19) wonders why there “is still no major honour” for Ken Dodd. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that, at his trial for fraud (i.e. tax evasion) in 1989, part of his defence was that he was so ill that he would never be able to work again. As soon as he was acquitted, he set off on a tour to celebrate his freedom. The OBE which Dodd was awarded in 1982 is more than enough honour for him.

WHY should shops be held responsible for litter outside their premises (Tom Richmond, The Yorkshire Post, June 20)? What do they pay business rates for?
