ONE must really applaud the efforts of Kevin Sinfield, the Leeds Rhinos former skipper, in completing his seven marathons in seven days in support of his best friend Rob Burrow and all sufferers of MND.

Whilst there was no official timekeeper and to my knowledge no one else has accomplished this feat, Sinfield completing it in a total time of 25 hours, 50 minutes and 11 seconds must stand as a world record of sorts unless any reader can prove otherwise.

This got me thinking, why wouldn’t Welcome to Yorkshire try to organise this as an annual event along the lines of Tour de Yorkshire?

They could invite top athletes to run seven marathons in seven days along different routes around Yorkshire similar to the bike race to try to set new world records.

I am sure some way could
also be found to raise money
for MND to maintain the legacy of Kevin Sinfield’s accomplishment.

I am sure the Yorkshire crowds would turn out in their thousands along the routes to cheer the runners on, just like they do in the bike race. I think this would also be great and continued positive publicity for Yorkshire – and a fitting tribute to the example set by Sinfield.
