Leeds Bradford Airport ‘nimbys’ don’t speak for Harrogate – Yorkshire Post Letters

A PREDICTABLE lecturing letter from Harrogate Zero Carbon (The Yorkshire Post, February 17) to the democratic decision by Leeds City Council to support the long-overdue improvements to Leeds Bradford Airport.

I would like to reassure readers that there are a vast number of people in Harrogate (and hopefully other parts of West and North Yorkshire) who are absolutely delighted that a private company is prepared to invest millions to “level up” the infrastructure in a catchment area of some two million people.

That we will have a terminal which is smart and welcoming and incorporates many carbon-minimising features. That Leeds City Council is supportive of the need to have a rail-link.

I am embarrassed by the Nimby selfishness of a small minority of vociferous, financially-secure Harrogate 
do-gooders.

Instead of targetting Leeds City Council for their pragmatic decision, perhaps environmental lobby groups efforts should be focussed on the UK government?

We have a national staged move to all-electric cars. Why not the same for LBA aircraft?
