March 15 Letters: Richie Benaud’s wise words

From: David Quarrie, York.

I WAS very saddened to hear that Richie Benaud has died of skin cancer (The Yorkshire Post, April 11). I always admired and respected this Australian as a gentleman, excellent cricketer, good sportsman and the best cricket commentator ever.

He, along with the late Jim Laker, were quite superb when commentating on any game of cricket, They both knew exactly when to speak, and when not to, and always said such good common sense things.

From: Peter Bye, Addingham.

THE discovery of a huge amount of oil in Surrey (The Yorkshire Post, April 10) will no doubt result in large areas of the county suffering the indignity of a large industrial complex being built.
