Minister’s comments about ‘far right fantasy’ countryside show attitudes towards farming - Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Peter Auty, Sunnybank, Great Hatfield.

Why do we have a Minister for Nature who doesn't seem to understand the countryside? "Pubs with warm ale and black Labrador's is a far right fantasy," stated Jenny Riddell-Carpenter, the Minister for Nature, at the Labour Party Conference.

Another Labour Minister with a serious lack of empathy for the British countryside and its rural communities.

The Minister for Nature oversees ‘Natural England’ whose members continually bombard the chicken industry with objections to any planning applications to expand and grow their businesses due to the ever expanding demand for chicken in today's market.

The green belt, house building, solar farms, rewilding, flatulating cows, meat production, animal husbandry, wildflowers, biodiversity, all at threat of one sort or another to the countryside way of life.

Farmers just want to get on with farming, in most cases producing food for our tables.

With the loss of millions of acres of productive farmland in other parts of the world, would it not make sense to allow our farmers to produce food from the maximum amount of farmland and export any excess to other countries that badly need it?

Cut the welfare bill for the shirkers who won't work and give the farmers a proper subsidy, maybe then the farming community can employ some of these people when they come off benefits.
