I AGREE with David Craggs (The Yorkshire Post, February 11) and Andrew Vine (February 16) about the accelerated decline of retailers on the high streets due to lockdown.

I hope that this can be at least slowed down by people shopping locally and supporting local traders.

Who would have thought that there would be a national shortage of cardboard boxes due to the popularity and expansion of online retailers like Amazon?

What is the future of the retail sector? What is the future of the retail sector?
What is the future of the retail sector?

How many items ordered online either do not come up to our expectations from the images illustrated, or are the wrong size and have to be returned to the supplier?

When ordering food online it is frustrating that a few items on every order are substituted for something similar, or the
‘use by date’ is only a few days away, so a few of us are obliged to
send them back to the online supplier.

Surely, when we come out of lockdown, hopefully in a few months’ time, it will be again enjoyable to go out and shop, and once again relish that ‘retail experience’ by buying and supporting those retailers, who have their helpful staff, and who know the products they
are selling, rather than reading a few reviews from other customers.
