Patronising BBC shown up by All Creatures Great and Small success – Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Steve Wilson, Bradford.

WELL done to GP Taylor for highlighting the woeful decision by the BBC not to consider the new series of All Creatures Great and Small (The Yorkshire Post, October 7).

I’ve not watched an episode of either the original nor the latest offering, but its appeal is obvious. That the BBC deemed it unworthy says much about why many of certain generations despair of it. “Forced multi-culturalism” bombards our senses, be it television or radio, and is an insult to the majority of fair-minded and intelligent licence payers. Many supporters in your pages in recent weeks have championed the value of the BBC in terms purely of cost per day. This misses the point – it is about choice and I, like many more, simply wish to have the choice to spend my money elsewhere than be patronised.

I AM pleased that GP Taylor has spoken out about acting in traditional roles. I get very annoyed when I see historical or quintessentially white fictional characters being played by actors from BAME backgrounds.

The other matter of script writers including characters that are totally out of sync with the drama is almost laughable, and does nothing to enhance the reputation of the actors who agree to play these parts.

ALL Creatures Great and Small and was a brilliant advert for Yorkshire – and not a bicycle to be seen. I can’t wait for the next series.
