Pedalling cycle safety

From: Paul Morgan, Wilderspin Heights, Barton-upon-Humber, North Lincolnshire.

FURTHER to the letter
from James Colin Smith (Yorkshire Post, May 16)
regarding the menace of
cyclists, I agree with most of the points he makes.

However, I would add a
further point. It should be
illegal for cyclists to ride on the road along stretches where a dedicated cycleway is also available.

Local councils go to great expense to construct these cycleways, to greatly increase the safety of all road users, and improve traffic flow by taking cyclists out of the mix.

However my observations have been that leisure and casual cyclists will use these cycleways, but sports and club cyclist will not.

Too many cyclists believe that everyone else has to make allowances for them, but they have to make no allowances for anyone else.

Foreign interests

From: CD Round, Lee Lane East, Horsforth, Leeds.

WHY on earth are the Government allowing the takeover of Severn Water by a foreign consortium? Not the first utility to be owned by foreign consortia.

With good cash flow and dividends large amounts of money leave the UK every year causing vast damage to our economy and balance of payments.

Several of our utilities are now owned by foreign investment funds who do nothing for the British economy. We must be mad.
