‘Get Brexit un-done’ as Boris Johnson faces up to coronavirus – Tom Richmond

I SEEM to see the beginning of discussions about future awards to serving NHS staff members (Tom Richmond, The Yorkshire Post, March 28).

Could I suggest that first, without hesitation, the NHS be awarded a George Cross and be hereafter known as NHSGC?

Every serving member of staff should be provided with something like a brooch or lapel badge marked NHSGC to proudly display the part that person played in this particular war – which does bring to mind the very similar worthy award to the island of Malta in 1942.

From: Sue Hanson, Dudwell Lane, Halifax.

IT was truly amazing and deeply moving to see people across the country come together to applaud the NHS for all it is doing to fight coronavirus and keep people alive.

What a shame it has taken something so catastrophic to make us all do what we should do every day. Let us all hope that seeing what dedication and selflessness the NHS staff show, not only in times of crisis but every day, the younger generation will now be encouraged to look at the NHS as a good career path.

THE coronavirus situation is showing up substantial flaws in the Government’ss ability to manage the situation with blame attaching to several issues – most tellingly the lack of PPE for NHS professionals.

Three weeks ago, I was talking to a friend whose wife is a nurse in a nearby hospital.

The lack of PPE was already well identified, with nurses having to be allocated according to the availability of PPE or otherwise,

One suspects that, as usual and so often, the fault lies with civil servants who have charge of this type of affair.

As usual, they will escape any form of censure and move on to bigger and better things.

From: Y Crossley, Micklefield, Leeds.

AFTER all this gloom and greed, I would like to share what happened last Friday in Garforth.

I was in Sainsbury’s. There was just one two-pint bottle of milk. A young lady bent to pick it up, saw me and beckoned me to take it.

I said no, I didn’t want any as I have a milkman. It made my day. She had the right to it as she was before me. Maybe some of the greedy folk will see this and just think about it, but maybe not.

I won’t hold my breath.
