The war with Iran raises questions over activities of US bases on British soil such as Menwith Hill - Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Martin Schweiger, on behalf of the Menwith Hill Accountability Campaign, Leeds.

In the last few days the USA has attacked Iran and killed political leaders and numerous civilians. A short while ago the USA attacked Venezuela killing at least 100 people and abducting the Venezuelan President.

Boats in the Caribbean and in the Pacific have been bombed and more people killed. These are executions outside the scope of any law with no judicial process.

These events give rise to serious questions about the actions and accountability of the current government of the USA. There is a major problem for the UK. There are at least 24 US military bases around the UK.

The large surveillance base at Menwith Hill near Harrogate is very likely to be involved in intelligence gathering around Iran and other Middle East Countries. Telephone calls, emails and any digital communications are being intercepted.

Among other things, intelligence will be supporting lethal military operations. Who is responsible for what information is collected and what use is made of the intelligence gathered?

Under the pretext of security a veil of secrecy covers the actions undertaken at Menwill Hill. It matters because people are being killed based on unverified information collected and processed here in Yorkshire.

Each Tuesday evening a group stands by the main gates of Menwith Hill from 6pm to 7pm peacefully calling for accountability. You are welcome to come and stand with us.
