THE article from Don Valley MP Nick Fletcher (The Yorkshire Post, February 16) was an insult to the people of Doncaster in particular, and those in South Yorkshire generally.

His delusional account of how the area has been misled by Labour politicians and trades unions over recent years beggars belief.

Many years of underfunding and underinvestment by a succession of Tory governments are a matter of fact – not opinion – and Covid notwithstanding, we continue to pay a heavy price for this mismanagement.

Mr Fletcher’s predecessor Caroline Flint did a sterling job for Don Valley for more than 20 years.

Sadly, a good number were persuaded by the anti-Corbyn right-wing press and Boris Johnson’s Brexit promises to lend their votes to Mr Fletcher and others.

What’s happening or not happening in Doncaster is the same elsewhere in these parts, and a lot of us hope that people will have chance for a rethink sooner rather than later.

As I said, Caroline Flint was a first class MP for Don Valley, far better than Mr Fletcher will ever be.

Fortunately it’s more than likely that his tenure as an MP will be shortlived.
