US assistance in the Second World War only came after Pearl Harbour - Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Colin Richardson, Brandesburton.

I have been giving thought to Donald Trump's comment about Starmer not being a Churchill. Does he mean that on the onset of World War II, when Churchill visited the USA on numerous occasions asking for assistance, he was repeatedly refused.

The only assistance given was to sell Britain arms that took decades to pay off. Assistance on the ground only came after Japan caught them asleep and destroyed Pearl Harbour.

In return Britain and its allies assisted the USA in the war against Japan. It has been shown that Trump's knowledge of history is non-existent. His claim that the USA won the Second World War, later retracted, being an example.

Amongst family and friends we have tried to identify any wars that America have been involved in without allied involvement and so far have only identified the American civil war.

This is in no way a slur on the USA, where I used to visit often on business and still have many friends, but a criticism of the current leader of the free world and his sycophantic advisers who fail to correct him and continue to encourage him.
