Vaccine critics owe Boris Johnson an apology – Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Robert Kershaw, Wetherby.

THE Government and all the medical experts advising the decision makers will, no doubt, acknowledge there are things they should, and would, have done differently with the knowledge they have gained about the Covid-19 virus over the last 12 months.

I wonder if the Government critics will now give some credit for the amazing success the UK have made in vaccinating our vulnerable population and now compare us with the rest of Europe.

WE would like to thank the amazing NHS staff and army of volunteers delivering Covid vaccines in Whitby Pavilion.

Not only is the venue wonderful – views to take your breath away and your mind off any worries – but everything ran like clockwork.

We only had to wait a few minutes, sitting in comfortable chairs, safely spaced, before we were whipped in to have our vaccines. We hardly felt the needle – very professional.

NOBODY could have failed to be moved by the grief suffered by BBC Look North correspondent Cathy Killick, who has lost her mother and father to Covid within a few weeks of each other.

I will never know how she managed to produce such a poignant and beautiful tribute to her parents while she was in emotional trauma. Her story was so personal and straight from a loving heart.

Cathy and I worked together for many years covering North Yorkshire for the BBC and she is one of the most talented, professional, sensitive, decent and lovely people to work with who now, sadly, knows the pain and tragedy of death from Covid that has to be faced by so many.

I know Cathy is desperately unhappy there has been no mention yet of a national day of remembrance for those lost in this pandemic – as well as the sacrifices by the general public.

I do hope for Cathy’s sake – and all the others in despair – the Government is working on this.

AS the vaccine programme is so well organised, could those in charge supervise the reopening of schools?

Their expertise would command more confidence than anything Education Secretary Gavin Williamson says or does.
