HEALTH Secretary Matt Hancock warns the nation “Don’t blow it now, we are on the route out” (The Yorkshire Post, January 19).

The latest government worry is those recently vaccinated will start to flout the rules thus continuing the spread of the virus.

I am 78 with other health issues. I received my Covid vaccination in Bingley on January 17, thus it becomes effective 21 days later on February 7.

Contrary to the paper’s headline suggesting people will ignore guidelines that could spread the virus, I take the opposite view – staying isolated until seven days after the second vaccine ensures I do not waste the brilliance of medical science, keeping me and others safe. I urge others to follow my example.

Probably the most important decision taken by the PM and his Cabinet was to curtail the original five-day Christmas relaxation period to just Christmas Day, thus significantly reducing the spread of the newer lethal variant of Covid-19.

Had that decision not been taken, we would be facing medical armageddon.

HOW you can imagine we have any interest in what the despicable Tony Blair has to say is beyond me – even when he may be right (The Yorkshire Post, January 16).

As for footballers celebrating, I can understand and live with that, but the players out partying should have Derbyshire Police set on them.
