Vicar deserves rightful credit
COULD I, as one of the volunteers at Holy Trinity Church, Hull, referred to in the article by the Rev Matt Woodcock, Curate at Holy Trinity, (Yorkshire Post, February 23), correct one part of the article.
Prior to the arrival of the present incumbent, the Rev Canon Dr Neal Barnes, we helped and supported the last incumbent, the Rev James Forrester, in keeping the church going, as he was not a well man. It would be misleading to assume he neglected his duties, which was not the fact, and he was always appreciative of our duties in church.

Lumber over Co-op number
From: A Deacon, Overton Drive, Bradford.
IT was interesting to read in your letters (Yorkshire Post, February 16) concerning old Co-operative dividends and their numbers.
I can confirm that our number was as low as 11. This caused many a problem for me personally whilst shopping in my early years. Born in 1930 and shopping just prior to the outbreak of war in 1939 and immediately afterwards, many were the times when the shop assistant would ask patronisingly: “No, son, I am not asking your age, I want your Co-op number!”
Unless there was another member of staff around to verify my story, my grandfather or aunt had to visit later to confirm I was correct. A few times the purchases were left on the counter until this happened.
Hats off to Ian

Hide AdIan McMillan can rest easy (“Skip the excuses”, Yorkshire Post, February 26), had his hat size been 7 he would have been acting his hat size – and his age – since this equates to the metric size 57cm, which just happens to be my own size (but I am a little older!). I can still skip, though.
