Put Piers Morgan in Tower of London over inept interviewing

I WAS intrigued by the somewhat draconian assertion of your correspondent Mr David Warnes that TV presenter Piers Morgan should be consigned to the Tower of London on the grounds that the journalist was subversive (The Yorkshire Post, April 18).

Mr Morgan apparently had audaciously cross-examined two evidently inept Conservative Ministers on the Government’s failings during the current pandemic crisis.

Mr Warnes goes on to remind us of the high moral standing of a “supportive media” during World War Two.

I would, in turn, respectively remind him that the conflict was fought in the defence of democracy, including the right of free speech, and an independent press.

I AM well aware that the BBC has a duty to keep us informed of events as they happen, but the coverage of Covid-19 has reached the point where it is spreading severe depression across the land through its programmes.

Every time it seems that they have searched through the records of every hospital and are broadcasting the most miserable cases.

It has now got so bad that we no longer watch the BBC.

Editor’s note: first and foremost - and rarely have I written down these words with more sincerity - I hope this finds you well.
