What would father have thought, Sir Bernard?
SIR Bernard Ingham hasn’t always been a union basher (The Yorkshire Post, July 16). His father was an active trades union officer who fought to improve the wages and conditions of his poorly- paid members in a tough industry.
Does Sir Bernard include his old dad in his nasty depiction of the cruel barons determined to bring down a prosperous country which has a record for kicking the poor whilst pouring riches into the pockets of wealthy bankers and over-paid directors?

Hide AdSir Bernard himself was an active member of the Labour Party who stood as a candidate in a local election and was editor of the Socialist Leeds Weekly Citizen.
He will have been a member of the National Union of Journalists when the union acted in support of the print unions which stood on picket lines for six weeks in a successful battle to rid the country of the five and a half day working week
Clever Bernard, recognising Mrs Thatcher’s hatred of trade unions and their members, changed tack and overnight became a convert to her obsession.
He immediately became the voice of the Conservative right wing and a member of the establishment class. Would Mr Ingham senior be proud of his famous son?
