Where is China’s apology to the world for causing coronavirus?

THE Chinese economy has profited from supplying western markets with industrial and consumer goods over many years.

With the havoc of coronavirus affecting everyday life, including business activity, sporting events, lost holiday deposits, general travel disruption to people across the world, where is the offer of compensation – or at least an apology – from those who caused the problem?

This should be accompanied with a declared firm intention, supervised by the World Health Organisation or similar international body, of addressing the appalling standards of animal husbandry and food hygiene that exist in China.

These features are now considered to be the source of the virus affecting so many individuals and families on all continents of the world.

To date, the voice of the Chinese authorities has been disgracefully largely silent on this matter.

ISN’T it time we – or rather they – stop blaming Boris Johnson for everything? He did not cause the virus and is being advised correctly by the experts.

We, as a country, should be sticking together and standing behind an excellent Prime Minister. Certainly one of the best in recent years, he does what he says he will do.

I am appalled by the behaviour of some of my fellow citizens in supermarkets and shops, piling their baskets and trolleys high. Heaven help us all if we ever have another war or such like. What is wrong with some of the people of our country? Have they never experienced hardship?

OUR response to coronavirus has been drastic but also measured (The Yorkshire Post, March 17).

According to Monday’s News at 10, the Californian response has involved buying yet more guns! I do not understand the American mindset and have no wish to.

THERE is no need to panic-buy and there are people going right over the top – such as the 
doctors who have said they will speak to patients only over the phone rather than face to face and also the Church of 
England, which has banned the use of refreshments, the Communion cup and the handshake we always do in church.

What people need to do right now is to think.
