The GOVERNMENT has announced that petrol and diesel cars and vans will not be allowed to be sold after 2030.

On the face of it a very laudable ambition, but has enough thought been put into all the problems and ramifications of this momentous change, or is it government hot air as so often is the case?

I may well seriously consider an electric car when mine is ready to change, but I have a driveway and a garage where it could be charged.

This is not something that so many houses and flats are lucky enough to have. Charging their electric car will be a real problem for very many people.

That is if the grid will be able to cope with the extra load.

The cheapest new petrol car at the moment is just under £7,000, the cheapest electric one is almost three times the price. A lot can happen in ten years but I can’t see the price difference closing that much.

I understand that the majority of electric cars are unable to tow anything, another real problem.
