I WOULD have thought it would have been beneficial for plant nurseries to remain open.

If they were willing to deliver plants to homes, surely the recipients would gain benefit from being out in the fresh air gardening rather than staying indoors getting increasingly bored, irritable and argumentative?

The biggest strain for me is mental stimulation. At 87, I liked getting out and about, but even a ride out in the car is frowned upon. Social distancing is essential, but so is mental and physical activity to keep both body and soul prepared for normality, whenever that comes.

From: Peter Rickaby, Selby.

THE Government should realise there is no justification for not allowing garden centres to remain open when supermarkets are allowed to sell plants and compost. Entry could be restricted as with shops, allowing people access to obtain urgent requirements for a summer’s gardening as recommended by the NHS.

From: Henry Watson, Harrogate.

IF garden centres become a special case for the lifting of virus restrictions, where will it stop? We’re at war – against a hidden enemy. Gardens can wait.

Editor’s note: first and foremost - and rarely have I written down these words with more sincerity - I hope this finds you well.
