I HAVEN’T visited most of the towns in the shire but let’s be quite honest – our town, Harrogate, is probably among the scruffiest and dirtiest of all.

When was the last time any council member walked down either Cambridge Street or Oxford Street and looked at the dirt, urine, vomit and cigarette butts littering the place?

Let’s not talk about John Street. It’s disgusting.

I hear frequently from our politicians about how wonderful the town is – but how can it be like that when it’s so dirty?

On a personal note, I’ve never lived in such a dirty town. I pay in excess of £3,000 a year in council tax and live, walk and survive avoiding drug addicts and drunks in what should be, but isn’t, a safe, clean town.

I can without question state unequivocally that I have never seen a street cleaner, so what am I paying for?

It’s about time someone in authority, not afraid to lose their job, does something about it.

I UNDERSTAND why people are still out walking – but there’s still no excuse for litter just being discarded.

If we all picked some rubbish up each day on our daily walk, the county would look a lot cleaner and at no cost.
