Yorkshire needs united voice when lobbying

From: Stewart Arnold, Stratton Park, Swanland, Hull.

YOU are absolutely right to call for an unified voice for Yorkshire when it comes to lobbying in Westminster and Whitehall.

Also it has struck me how
much better other regions in Europe are at lobbying in
Brussels not just for accessing
the various pots of money
there but also in terms of influencing the decision-making process.

SO Siemens wants the Government to finalise its energy policies. What they are actually saying is: “If you don’t guarantee subsidies for 20 years we won’t come to Hull.”

Well, I would argue. Do come and you’re welcome, but not at the expense of the taxpayers. Who are the taxpayers? The existing companies and employees crushed under the weight of 20 per cent VAT, petrol duty, employment tax and a raft of other taxes too many to list. A further dimension, of course, is that we all know now that ludicrous turbines are worse than useless.
