Passport pioneer

Five-year-old Elliot Coutts Miller from Staines is the first person issued with a new look passport from the counter of the London Passport Office.

The new passport contains enhanced security features and will be phased in gradually from this month. Elliot got his just in time for a family holiday.

The passport contains dozens of images depicting “typical British weather” – only four of the pages show the sun in a cloudless sky. The clouds appear alongside lightning, a compass, sundials, narrow boats and windmills in a series of images alongside some of the UK’s most famous landmarks.
