59-year-old Frozen super fan from Yorkshire spends 24 hours in just one week watching it at cinema

A 59-year-old Frozen super fan from Yorkshire watched the hit animated movie at the cinema an incredible 14 times in just one week – racking up a staggering 24 hours of screentime.

Paul Deakin, from Marsden near Huddersfield, was “delighted” when he found out one of his favourite films had been re-released for the big screen to mark Disney’s 100th anniversary.

The former rail worker – who has a shrine to the film in his home – immediately snapped up a ticket to every single showing at his local Showcase Cinema de Lux Leeds.

He booked a ticket for the 4.45pm and 7.25pm showings each day of the week.

Paul’s incredible dedication to the movie means he spent the equivalent of an entire day at the cinema last week.

The self-confessed film fanatic describes his house as a “shrine” to movies and places the Frozen franchise in his all-time top three, alongside Wonder Woman and Star Wars.

He said: “There’s something about Frozen that’s magical. I love everything about it, the animation, the music, the story, the soundtrack – it’s an amazing film.

“When I saw that it was being re-released, I was delighted and bought tickets to all of the showings straight away, I didn’t want to miss it on the big screen.

“I didn’t get bored at all watching the films back-to-back like that, as soon as the early showing had finished, I was looking forward to the next one.

“Every time I watched it, I noticed something different, whether it was something to do with the amazing soundtrack or an element of the script I hadn’t noticed before.”

Paul, who’s married, said he’d spend the 40-minute intermission between the ending of the first showing and before the starting of the second stretching his legs and stocking up on snacks and drinks.

He missed seeing Frozen in cinemas a decade ago but caught the sequel in 2019 and immediately fell in love with the franchise.

Since then, Paul has added a host of Frozen merchandise to his ‘film shrine’ house, including a number of large posters that adorn the walls of his home.

He has watched the movies dozens of times but didn’t get the chance to enjoy the first film on the big screen until it was re-released last week.

Jon Dixon, UK Marketing Director at Showcase Cinemas, said: “Paul's incredible dedication to Frozen is truly remarkable and a testament to the enduring magic of this beloved film.
