An 80-year-old man has died after being hit by a car while riding his mobility scooter on a busy road in Yorkshire.

South Yorkshire Police said the man was involved in a crash with a blue Citroen C1 on Penistone Road near to the junction with Herries Road South in Sheffield shortly before 1.30pm on Monday (Sep 2).

Paramedics attended and the 80-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries, however police have confirmed he has now died.

A statement from South Yorkshire Police said: “His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for any witnesses to the collision, or those with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward.”
