Controversy in Calderdale over copies of erotic literature left in 'God fearing' village's little free library

'Little free libraries' have become a popular concept over recent years, with many communities using upcycled cabinets or even renovating old telephone boxes into places where residents can donate and pick up pre-loved books.

But a notice in one such village amenity in Calderdale has prompted controversy, after one anonymous resident protested against the donations of 'pornographic literature'.

In the unsigned notice put up in the box in Cornholme, near Todmorden, the resident objected to donations of what they described as "filth", while requesting that erotica fans should meanwhile consider uprooting to another nearby town.

The notice reads: "Whoever is placing the copys [sic] of pornographic literature in here, stop! Cornholme is a God fearing Christian village."

The notice, pictures of which have been shared on social media, continued: "If this filth is taking to your liking may we suggest that you move to the cesspit that is Hebden Bridge."

It is not known whether the small sign was left as a joke, or a more serious protest.

A picture of the notice posted on Twitter prompted mixed reactions, including one suggestion that the source of the controversy may have been "all the housewives trying to dump their 'Fifty Shades' trilogies".

Another Twitter user replied that they "liked the sound of Hebden Bridge", while another added, "that's me off to Cornholme with a stack of Jilly Cooper novels".
