Council confirms delays to revamp of ‘much loved’ paddling pool
Council plans to revamp a “much loved” kids paddling pool in Redcar have been hit by delays.
Concerns were first raised about the condition of the pool, on The Stray close to the beach, two years ago when it was described as neglected and in need of repair.
Twelve months ago former cabinet member for neighbourhoods, Councillor Adam Brook signed off the funding required to install new play equipment and lay down new flooring at the site.
Zetland ward councillor Jade Lavan said while an initial lead time delay of six months had been predicted, there had been further delay after the discovery of flooding and drainage problems which needed to be resolved before work could commence.

Coun Lavan, in a members’ question posed to the authority, called for the necessary repairs to be prioritised and the installation of the play equipment and new flooring to take place “as soon as practically possible”.
She said: “The paddling pool is a real jewel in the crown of our community.
“It is a much-loved and well-used facility for local children, families, and visitors, particularly during the spring and summer months.”
At a recent council meeting, Coun Brook’s predecessor, Coun Neil Bendelow confirmed the further delay, and said issues with drainage were only identified when preparation began on resurfacing of the area.
Coun Bendelow did not give a potential opening date for the paddling pool, but said the required works would be signed off as a “matter of urgency” and should be completed in May.
He said he would provide a further response in writing to independent councillor, Coun Lavan.
