Harrogate opticians put navigation skills to the test – raising over £500 for local charity
Henshaws, a dedicated charity based in Harrogate which works to support visually impaired individuals and those with other disabilities, set up the ‘Henshaws Hundreds’, an initiative to get members of the community to raise £100 through a skill or hobby.
The team at Specsavers Harrogate decided to put lead optometrist, Pui Yee Thung’s navigation skills to the test – even though they’re not her strongest suit.

Their initial fundraising goal was £100, but thanks to the generous contributions from colleagues and family members, the team exceeded expectations, raising an impressive total of £558, with each £100 raised being matched by a generous funder.
Cynthia Zabee, dispensing optician at Specsavers Harrogate, comments: “We’re so proud of Pui taking the initiative to direct us on our walk on behalf of Henshaws. Here at the store, we enjoy getting together outside of work and taking part in new activities and the ‘Henshaw Hundreds’ challenge seemed like a fantastic way to incorporate our passions, all while raising important funds.
“We can’t believe we managed to raise over £500, we’re ever so grateful for the support from friends, family and the local community. Henshaws has a special place in all our hearts at Specsavers Harrogate, as they care for some of our patients with vision loss. So, it’s wonderful to be able to give back and say thank you on behalf of customers and colleagues at our store.”
