La Croissanteria: The Yorkshire bakery serving chicken tikka, fish finger and shawarma croissants
A Yorkshire bakery has launched their sixth venue in the north after the success of its unusual croissants.
“Chicken tikka croissants are our most popular croissants along with shawarma-filled croissants and our sweet croissants,” said Deon Jacobs, the business development director at Cawa Bakery, the company behind La Croissanteria cafes.
Cawa Bakery opened up its first coffee shop in Sheffield in 2017, and quickly expanded. Now there are five La Croissanteria cafes across the north as well as a purpose built 25,000 sq ft bakery.
The first West Yorkshire cafe is set to open soon at Leeds Bus Station.

Cawa became La Croissanteria due to a lack of storage space when they opened up their first Meadowhall store.
Deon said: “There was no storage for our 120 products so that’s when we decided our main vessel would be a croissant. Similar to the Subway brand but we use croissants.”
Over the years staff have been filling the “buttery” croissants with “nice fillings,” including cheese, butter and jam and a weird and wonderful range of hot savoury fillings.
“On hearing about our fish finger croissants some French reporters came up from London because people were going sacre bleu about them,” said Deon.

The fish finger croissants are served with cheese and heated to taste. They even have Wagyu beef burger croissants with the Wagyu beef sourced from Wortley Wagyu, croissants stuffed with falafel and sweet croissants and cruffins.
La Croissanteria and Cawa was set up by a husband and wife duo with a passion for baking high quality products.
The artisan bakery itself sells everything from pain au chocolats to sourdough bread, from bagels to focaccia, supplying cafes across the region as well as being top sellers on Amazon.
“At the bakery we roast our own coffee we’re quite unique in that. Our meat is all halal because there’s a big demand for it.”
For Deon however he still likes his croissants served simply with some jam.
