Plans revealed for pet crematorium on Yorkshire farm
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced several new planning applications, including a proposal to convert an agricultural building into a pet crematorium.
The applications, published under the Town & Country Planning Act 1990, invite residents to view the plans and submit comments before 11 December 2025.
Pet Crematorium Proposed for Portington
The most significant proposal for many local residents is planning application 25/03108/PLF, which seeks permission for:
- The change of use of an agricultural building to a pet crematorium and flexible commercial units
- Construction of a glazed walkway
- Installation of roof lights
- Alterations to existing windows and doors
The site, located at Grange Farm, Portington Road, Portington (DN14 7LZ), sits alongside a public right of way, meaning the development may have an impact on local walkers and the rural landscape.
The application is expected to attract interest due to the sensitivity of crematorium facilities, traffic considerations, and potential economic benefits linked to the proposed commercial units.
Gunby Hall Garage Applications
Two additional applications relate to Gunby Hall, Gunby Road, Bubwith (YO8 6DQ):
- 25/03083/PLF – Erection of a detached garage following demolition of an existing structure
- 25/03084/PLB – Listed Building Consent for the same work
Because Gunby Hall is a listed property, both proposals fall under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990. The council notes that they are likely to affect the setting of the historic building, meaning special consideration will be given to the design and materials of the new structure.
How to View and Comment on the Applications
Residents can view all documents and track progress by visiting the council’s planning portal and entering the relevant reference number. Comments or objections can be submitted online, via email to [email protected], or with help from staff at local libraries.
All feedback must be received by 11 December 2025, after which the applications will proceed to the next stage of the planning process. The council also reminds residents that representations may be publicly available under the Local Government Act 1972.
