Police have found a body during the search for missing North Yorkshire man Gerrard Burrell-Hodgson.

North Yorkshire Police said following an extensive search, a body of a man was found in a rural area north of Helmsley.

Mr Burrell-Hodgson, 53, from Deighton, near Northallerton, has been missing since the morning of March 1. While a formal identification has yet to take place, Mr Burrell-Hodgson’s family has been informed.

Inspector Sarah Sanderson thanked all the members of the public who have helped and supported the family and police as they tried to locate Mr Burrell-Hodgson.

His family is now being supported by specially-trained officers.

Searches have been carried out in the North York Moors and Howardian Hills areas, east of Northallerton, across the course of the last week. The NPAS police helicopter had also been assisting the search.
