Police have identified the woman who fell from Lendal Bridge into the River Ouse in York - but searches for her continue

Police believe they have identified a young woman who fell from Lendal Bridge in York city centre.

The woman entered the River Ouse on October 30 after being seen on the bridge around midday, but she was not immediately identified and police released a description of her in an attempt to establish who she was.

However, they have now traced her family and are in contact with them.

Underwater and riverbank searches have continued over the past three weeks, but no trace of the woman, aged in her early 20s, has been found.

Searches will continue and her family are being kept updated.

The woman was described as having purple or red dyed hair, and was wearing a black coat, black skinny jeans, black boots and red or purple socks.

She was carrying a sheaf of A4 papers.

North Yorkshire Police are still keen to view dashcam footage of Lendal Bridge at the time of the incident, or to speak to any witnesses who may have seen the woman before she entered the water.
