David Clark, 59, was treated by Great North Air Ambulance staff when he was injured by cattle while walking his dogs near his home in Richmond on September 21, but died at the scene.

It has now been revealed that Mr Clark's son is Calum Clark, a professional rugby player who plays for Premiership club Saracens and has been capped by England.

David also has two daughters, Helen and Hannah, with his wife Jane. His mother, brother and sister also survive him.

The popular deputy head - who coached Richmond School's rugby teams and had worked there since 1997 - was laid to rest on October 1 following a service at St Mary's Church in Richmond.

Pupils and staff from the school lined the route of the funeral procession and fellow members of Richmond Cycling Club followed on their bikes.

A Justgiving page set up by Helen has since raised over £8,000.

The Clarks said: "We have decided to go with the Great North Air Ambulance as they were present at the scene of the terrible incident.

"We are totally devastated at the untimely passing of Dave, but are taking great comfort in hearing everyone’s kind words and funny memories of him. We are sure his legacy will live on in Richmond as well as further afield.

"If you could take a little bit of time, spare a little money to donate and share a special memory of Dave in your comments, we would be incredibly grateful."

David's son Calum, now 31, grew up in Richmond and was captain of rugby at Barnard Castle School. He played for the Leeds Carnegie academy and England Under 20s, before moving to Northampton Saints and winning the Premiership in 2014. He was part of England's World Cup training squad in 2015, and won a cap against France the same year. He joined Saracens in 2017 and won two more Premiership titles. David himself was a talented amateur rugby player who played for West Hartlepool as a young man.
