Tributes have been paid to a grandfather who died in a motorcycle crash in Scarborough last week.

Bodybuilder Michael John Sanders was killed after the Honda bike he was riding collided with a red Transit van on Marine Drive on Scarborough's sea front on Sunday, July 19.

The 59-year-old was from Brough with St Giles, near Catterick, with his family describing his death as "a great loss to everyone".

A statement issued by Mr Sanders' family said: “Michael John Sanders was gone too soon.

"He was a much loved dad, brother, granddad, uncle and friend. A great loss for everyone who was blessed to be part of his life.

“He will be sadly missed but we will see him again one day.”

The crash occurred at around 4.45pm, with Mr Sanders' bike described as a black and orange Honda CBR.

North Yorkshire Police said officers were continuing to investigate what happened and appealed to any witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage to get in touch.
