UK celebrities who fell in love through online dating: the ones that worked and the not so successful
You might think that it's just us mere mortals who are looking for love through online dating apps - but think again.

Busy celebrities all around the UK are also looking for that close connection with someone else. Apart from finding love while closely collaborating with another celeb, or hitting up the local pub and being swamped with fans, going online seems to be one of the best options for dating.

With most things heading more and more to the online realm anyway, it is no surprise that dating has been closely following suit. There are plenty of examples of celebrity couples whose dating has sprouted from connections that were started and developed online. These have continued with varying levels of success of course, just like with any relationship.

Famous celebrity couples who used online dating to find love

Let’s have a look at who on stage and the silver screen has used their own little screens to find their perfect match.

Sophie Turner & Joe Jonas

One of the most iconic celebrity couples, the very loving and now happily married Sophie and Joe, is proof that sometimes the best of things can start with a simple DM over Instagram.

These two have been masters at keeping their relationship away from the public eye ever since 2016 when they first met. But things progressed rather quickly after they became official in 2017. This was swiftly followed up with Joe proposing in October of the same year.

Joe is also not the only Jonas brother who met his wife online. Nick Jonas met his stunning wife Priyanka Chopra through Twitter.

Joel Dommet & Hannah Cooper

Sometimes all you need is a cat emoji sent over Instagram to catch someone's attention. Well, it certainly was for Joel Dommet.

Joel, a British comedian best known for presenting the National Television Awards and being the host of the Masked Singer TV show, had a tipsy Hannah sneak into his DMs one night. And the rest, as they say, is history.

As this couple also first met in 2016, it made us wonder whether there was something in the air. They were first seen together a year later and tied the knot no more than two years after, with a fairytale ceremony in Greece.

Dua Lipa & Anwar Hadid

Sometimes it is more about who you know than anything else. Dua Lipa, the very famous singer, was good friends with the Hadid sisters long before she ever met their younger brother Anwar.

Dua and Anwar are claimed to have first met at a very relaxed barbecue, but then swiftly took things online and slid into each other’s DMs where the sparks started to fly. Things only blossomed from there and the two officially started dating in 2019.

Their relationship lasted a good two years at which time the couple was never apart for more than two weeks at a time. Now this was pure dedication from two people who live very busy lives. Unfortunately, they broke up at the end of 2021 with reports that the couple put the brakes on their romance.

Rita Ora & Calvin Harris

Not only did this romance start on Twitter in 2013, but it ended on the same platform in June of 2014. Calvin tweeted “To address speculations - myself and Rita ended our relationship some time ago. She is a beautiful, talented woman & I wish her all the best”.

The match was a perfect pairing between a talented singer/songwriter and a successful DJ/producer. Their relationship was short in comparison to others but was one filled with intense adoration for each other.

The break-up sent shocks through the music industry and resulted in Rita being forced to delay the release of her album. That is the kind of passion we would expect from a celebrity couple.

The best celebrity online dating sites in the UK!

Now you might be thinking “why not just use Tinder like the rest of us?”. Well, you would be surprised to know that a lot of celebrities actually do.

Celebrities are well known to be spotted on mainstream sites like Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble, among others. So you might just strike it lucky on these if dating a celebrity is on your bucket list. But is there an exclusive celebrity dating app? Oh yes! One of the best, even though a bit less known, is without a doubt the celebrity dating app Raya.

Haven’t heard of it? Well, there is a reason for that. Raya relies mostly on word of mouth to gain exposure about the app. It is one of the most premier dating apps and prides itself on being “an exclusive dating and networking platform for people in creative industries”, so perfect for celebrity online dating.

Did we just compare a dating site to a prestigious college? Yes, we did. We had to make it clear that it is not an easy task to get on Raya. With only an 8% acceptance rate, the app is so exclusive that it is statistically easier to get placed at Eton College.

That doesn’t mean that it is impossible though. But a good reference from someone already on the site will help, and some patience would be good too. The waitlist has been known to span longer than the current monarchy itself. Don’t let it scare you off, take a chance and give it a go and see how lucky you might get. What do you make of celebrities dating online? Will you be giving it a chance and taking a gamble on finding true love with someone famous? Maybe your next adventure in life is with someone you’ve listened to on the radio or seen on Corrie. And who knows, yours might just be the next face on page 3 next to the likes of Rita Ora!
