Whitby Pier body: Police identify man, 55, found dead and appeal to trace his daughters

Police are appealing to trace the daughters of a man found dead near Whitby Pier on Tuesday.

The man has now been identified as Mark Welsh, 55, from the Cleveland area and his death is not thought to be suspicious.

North Yorkshire Police said: “Mark Welsh died in Whitby yesterday. He was 55. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

“We are trying to locate his daughters on behalf of the coroner.

Anyone who believes they are related to Mark, or can offer contact details (address or phone number) of a relative, is asked to call Sue Gregson, coroners’ officer, on 07787 262 846. Thank you.”

Henrietta Street was closed for several hours on Tuesday while police investigated the circumstances of Mr Welsh’s death. Police have thanked the public for their patience while officers worked at the scene.
