The fire at the recycling centre on Carr Hill, Balby, Doncaster, started at around 9.20pm on Monday.
Eight fire crews from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were originally called to the scene. A further four more crews were then sent to help.
Residents living nearby were asked to keep their windows and doors shut while firefighters battled the blaze.
Motorists travelling in the area were also advised to keep their windows and air vents closed and to turn off their air conditioning.
Firefighters remained at the scene until Thursday afternoon, when the fire was fully extinguished.
A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing and we expect an appliance to revisit the site tomorrow to ensure there are no recurring hot spots.
"The incident will now be handed over to Doncaster Council and a range of other partner agencies who will support the site owners in recovering from the fire.
"We’d like to once again thank local people for their patience, our partner agencies for their support and our firefighters for their amazing work during a really challenging incident.
"These photos show the sheer devastation this fire has caused."
