For while the Tottenham star's sublime set-piece in Wednesday's night's semi-final ultimately wasn't enough to send Gareth Southgate's side to their first World Cup Final since 1966, the 27-year-old defender has form from a dead ball situation.

It was on April 25, 2011 that Trippier broke the hearts of Doncaster Rovers fans with a free-kick similar to the one he delivered in the 2-1 defeat to Croatia.

The Bury-born star was on loan at Barnsley from Premier League giants Manchester City during the 2010-11 season - and as the season neared its end, the two South Yorkshire rivals met in front of more than 12,400 fans at Oakwell.

Jason Euell had put Rovers into the lead, only to see Stephen Foster reply ten minutes later for the Tykes.

Another goal from Euell on 73 minutes restored Rovers' lead but cometh the hour, cometh the man and with just three minutes of normal time remaining, Trippier stepped up to smash in a free-kick to secure Barnsley a point with a 2-2 draw and send the home fans wild.

And according to bookmakers Coral, Trippier's strike on Wednesday night was his first goal from a free-kick since that day more than seven years ago.

Were you there on that day? Can you remember the goal?
