Planners back sex shop proposals

A SEX shop on the A63 “wouldn’t give the right image to visitors to Hull”, it has been claimed.

Rotherham-based Cocktails Ltd wants to open the shop – the first in East Yorkshire – in a vacant Little Chef at the Beacon Services on the A63 near Brough.

The application has sparked two objections, claiming it is an inappropriate location on the doorstep to Hull. But councillors have been recommended to approve the application when it goes before East Riding Council’s licensing committee on May 20.

Objectors say that a sex shop would not portray the image needed as the city tries to raise its profile and add: “We also object strongly on moral grounds.”

But Bryan Davis, chairman of Elloughton-cum-Brough Town Council, said the premises was in the “middle of nowhere”,
adding: “As long as it doesn’t have big flashing signs it doesn’t matter.”

Officials say the planned logo “is not overtly sexual in nature”
and “the distance from the dual carriageway to the premises will enable a fleeting glance of
window displays, however
those planned are similar to displays in town centres in many stores.”
