Police cause offence over gobbledygook

A group which fights to reduce gobbledygook questioned the value of a police newsletter with the headline: "Police continue to target offenders".

The freesheet – produced by Cambridgeshire Police and the Cambridge Community Safety Partnership, a group made up of various local authorities – also said one "priority" for 2010 was "reducing offending".

The Plain English Campaign said: "It may be the most pointless headline in history. Do local authorities really need to spend public money telling people what is blindingly obvious? What next, 'nurses continue to care for the sick'."

The newsletter said it was one of 35 areas given extra Home Office funding to help reduce burglary and robbery as part of a vigilance programme.
