Police examine dossier claims over £1m school bonuses

Scotland Yard is considering whether to launch a full criminal inquiry into claims of financial mismanagement at a school.

Detectives at the force's specialist crime division were examining a dossier of information about Copland School in Wembley, north west London.

It was brought together by auditors at Brent Council after they were alerted to claims hefty bonuses were paid to senior managers. Among them was headteacher Sir Alan Davies who received up to 130,000 in bonuses over several years and resigned his 160,000-a-year job last October.

Sir Alan, who was knighted for services to education, stood down from his job weeks before he was due to face a disciplinary panel.

The bonuses were uncovered by union representative Hank Roberts who claimed almost 1m had been paid in bonuses.
