Police force bans mobile charging

A police force has banned officers from charging their mobile phones and MP3 players at work as it tries to save £50m by 2015.

Sussex Police said the new rule has the support of staff, but the ban will still only save thousands a year for the force, which has about 5,000 employees.

“We are talking a few pennies here,” said one officer. “It has not been well accepted.”

A force spokesman said many electrical items were “not essential” for officers’ work, adding that 10 per cent savings in testing and charging mobile devices had already been achieved.
