Police seek licence ban over ‘teen drinkers’

POLICE are calling for a club to be stripped of its licence to sell alcohol following incidents of disorder and evidence of drinking by children.

West Yorkshire Police say officers have been called three times this year to incidents at the Polish Parish Club in Edmund Street in Bradford.

On March 2 police were called to disorder outside the club where three youths under the age of 16 had been injured. Officers said a group of 30 youths aged 15 and 16 appeared to be under the influence of drink and some were abusive.

On April 6, police responded to a call about a fight outside the club. Around 70 youths, some drunk, were abusive and obstructive towards officers.

And on May 4 police responded to another fight outside the club. Officers were confronted with a large group of youths who appeared to be inebriated.

Police investigations into the incidents are ongoing.

West Yorkshire Police have submitted an application to Bradford Council for the licence to be reviewed. It could mean the licence being cancelled.

The council’s licensing and enforcement officer has submitted a report which says that the club does not appear to be operating in accordance with the club premises certificate and club rules.

The officer said the club has not responded to advice letters or requests for meetings and has failed two test purchase operations relating to the serving of alcohol to non-members.

Members of the council’s licensing panel will discuss the matter at a meeting on Friday.

A report to the committee says that the club has been advertising events to the public and non-members have been allowed inside.

Advice was given by police of the need for a premises licence to allow non-members to be served.

The club agreed to apply for a premises licence but no application has been submitted.
